Will Bat Surveys Delay My Proposed Works?
When planning roofing, renovation or construction projects, one of the biggest concerns is timing. People often worry that bat surveys will slow everything down or create barriers to getting work underway. In reality, delays are usually easy to avoid, and understanding the process helps your project run smoothly from the start.
If you take anything away from visiting our website, let it be this:
Surveys are seasonal, but you can get in touch with us at any time. The earlier the better!
Bat activity surveys take place during summer when bats are active enough for us to collect accurate information on the roosts they use. This means that elements of your bat survey can only be carried out between May and September. This doesn’t mean your project will automatically be delayed.
The most effective way to stay on schedule is to get in touch early, even if your plans are still developing. Early communication allows us to assess what type of surveys you need and when they can take place, giving us the best chance of matching up with your project timeline.
We will Always begin surveys as soon as possible
Once we understand what your project involves, we start surveys at the first appropriate opportunity. If you have a specific deadline, such as a planning hearing or contractor start date, please let us know. This helps us prioritise your work and coordinate survey timings accordingly.
Where you have a lengthy project process ahead, we won’t start surveys early if we think that may mean you need to repeat them. Survey reports are valid for 18months, so we will take long lead times into account too.
Your Surveys May Need Multiple Visits
In certain situations, more than one visit is needed to gather a complete picture of how bats use your property. When multiple visits are needed, each visit must be spaced at least three weeks apart. If multiple visits are required, we will guide you through the schedule. Clear planning prevents surprises later and keeps your project moving at a steady pace.
Time may be needed for licensing
If your surveys show bats are present and your proposed works could affect them, a licence may be required before the project can continue. Licence applications take time to process, and this is another reason getting in touch is so important.
By starting the process early, you give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays and ensuring that legal requirements are met well before work is due to begin.
Proper surveys prevent unexpected problems
A full, accurate survey does not create delays, it helps avoid them. We most often see delays when surveys are commissioned too late, leaving insufficient time to meet seasonal windows or complete the required steps. Starting early protects your project from additional costs, last-minute changes and unnecessary pressure.
Early contact is the key to staying on schedule
If you are planning works and think you may need a bat survey, get in touch as soon as possible. Even a brief conversation at an early stage helps us understand your needs and ensures there is time for everything to be completed properly.
With the right preparation, bat surveys fit smoothly into your project timeline and support the work you want to do.
